Now that the file sharing in the Technion doesn't have a server (or that everyone is a server, whichever way you look at it...), the TCC has no one to go after but YOU!
Be warned.
By encrypting the files you transfer (automatically done in WASTE) you can be sure they won't charge you for copyright infringement (which could get you kicked out of the Technion) and the maximum they can do is to charge you for operating a server.
The technion law is very unclear and that just means they can do what they want. any machine sending any file to another (even just a Word document) is a server, which is against the Law.
in any case, you take your own risk, and there IS a risk. good luck.
F.A.Q
Q: Why are the downloads so slow?
A: WASTE uses an encryted file transfer method which means that no one can read the contents of your transfers except you, this method is fast but is not as fast as the LAN, which means that speed is maxed at around 700 KB/sec. you can download several files and get a total speed of 10 MB/sec.
Q: How many keys do I need to add?
A: You only need to add a key for one person already connected to the network. if you followed the Flash tutorial, WASTE will automatically add the keys for everyone else connected to the network.
Q: How Many Connection should I have Active?
A: About 15 seems to work well.
Q:Is it Encrypted?
A: Yes, WASTE is encrypted - which means no one can prove that you were transferring illegal files except the person you are downloading from.
Q: What happens if The TCC catch me?
A: first they will disconnect you from network and then it depends what they charge you with, either opening a server or sharing illegal files. if they charge you with opening a server you will probably be found guilty, but WASTE should prevent them from being able to prove you transferred Illegal files (unless they are the ones hosting illegal files and they download or send to you.)
since you CAN get kicked from the Technion for some years for sharing copyrighted material it is best to understand the dangers and take responsibility for your actions.
Q: If the TCC catch me, can I say it's your fault?
A: Absolutely NOT! I take no responsibility with what you do with the program! you downloaded it so YOU are responsible! even opening the program may in fact be a violation of the technion policy for which you might go to vaadat mishmaat!
Q: Is WASTE available for other operating systems?
A: there are versions for Mac, Linux, Windows and POSIX (WTF??) here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82356
Enjoy!
